The world’s largest marine protected area will be created in Antarctica’s waters in an international agreement made in Hobart.

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources on Friday agreed to safeguard more than one million square kilometres of the Ross Sea.

The CCAMLR consists of 24 countries and the European Union and has been meeting in Hobart since October.
